Abstract
The Colour Out of Space is among Lovecraft’s most celebrated works. What makes Colour distinct is the mystery that surrounds the phenomena that forms the central vehicle for the plot. What was the Colour, and what explains its bizarre and seemingly senseless effects? This article suggests that the Colour was a form of terraforming, and argues how this is sustained by the text.
